Churchill once proclaimed that “a polo handicap is a passport to the world.” The PTF Exchange Program was designed to utilize that handicap and thus continue the polo education of the Junior Players while also creating new friends and memories to last a lifetime.
Annually, the PTF hosts an English team in Wellington, Florida. In exchange, Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA) hosts a PTF team in England every July.
The New Zealand Exchange program runs every other year.
• Attendees are chosen based on skill level, maturity, participation in a PTF program in the last 18 months and overall ability to serve as an ambassador of polo and represent the PTF in a positive way.
• The exchange with England is often timed so that PTF participants can attend the prestigious Gold Cup Final at Cowdray Polo Club, play their games over the course of the week, and end the trip attending the high level Coronation Cup (International Cup) at Berkshire Polo Club. These opportunities would not be available without the support and collaboration between the PTF and HPA.
• Hosting of the exchange with New Zealand alternates annually between the U.S. and New Zealand. As part of the New Zealand exchange, the participants play four games, ending with an exciting game between the visiting PTF team and the top high school team in New Zealand. While in New Zealand, the PTF team stays in the dorms of boarding schools that have teams participating in the polo tournament.
Applications for the Exchange Programs are uploaded to this page of the website prior to an upcoming exchange trip. England Exchange Applications are often available in April/May, with a due date in June, while New Zealand exchange trip applications are often available July/August and are due in September.
